Inaugural Sunshine Coast Photographic Competition showcases the work of people who experience a mental illness.

“Seeing through my eyes clearly…”  a photographic exhibition run in conjunction with Queensland Mental Health Week, has given 14 contestants who have had a lived experience with mental illness, a disposable camera each and asked them to offer a personal perspective on the theme of themselves, their family and friends, or their community.

The exhibition of the resulting photo-narratives was held over two weeks at the Sunshine Coast Arts Industry Precinct (SCAIP) from Monday 3rd October through to Thursday 13th October 2011. This gave the general public the opportunity to choose and vote for their favourite photo and story with the three top place getters subsequently winning cash prizes of  $250.00, $150.00  and $75.00 respectively.

The competition is an initiative of ‘Link In’ - a leading Sunshine Coast mental health service and “Sunshine Coast Arts Industry Precinct” (SCAIP), an arts incubator assisting new up and coming artists.

It is hoped that “Seeing through my eyes clearly…”  will happen again in 2012. Watch this space for all developments.
